Lent, Holy Week & Easter Worship Service Schedule

Lent is a time when everything we do in Worship – readings, music, colors, liturgical arts – can remind us simultaneously of the reality of death, the reality of resurrection life, and Jesus’ experience of life, death, and resurrection life with us. God is with us in all times, even and especially in difficult times. People come to worship throughout the Easter season aching not only to hear about but also to experience the love of God showing up in the midst of reality in their lives. God can be found not only in the unlikely places we think of first – the cross, the manger, at table with sinners, healing on the sabbath – but also right in the middle of whatever is really going on in the community, the nation and in the world. There are no godforsaken places or people. Praise God!

Maundy Thursday Worship

With nightfall our Lenten observance comes to an end, and we gather with Christians around the world to celebrate the Three Days of Jesus’ death and resurrection. At the heart of the Maundy Thursday liturgy, is Jesus’ commandment to love one another. As Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, we are called to follow his example as we humbly care for one another, especially the poor and the unloved. At the Lord’s table we remember Jesus’ sacrifice of his life, even as we are called to offer ourselves in love for the life of the world.

Good Friday Prayer Vigil

This event is a wonderful way to take time out of your busy schedule to spend a few moments in prayer and quiet contemplation during the St. Paul Prayer Vigil. We all know the demands and expectations placed upon us these days, and how often it seems that there are never enough hours in the day to do what we feel needs to be done or accomplished. Yet, we also heed the words of Jesus to his disciples the night he was betrayed – “Stay awake and pray that you may not come into the time of trial; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” As it was for the disciples that night, it is difficult to let everything else go and give our full attention to what our Lord Jesus did for us as he went to the cross and rose from the dead.

May you all be ambassadors of prayer for the rest of our congregation. Perhaps through your witness many others will also consider time for prayer. We are stronger people and thus a stronger congregation when we know to whom we need to go for all our personal and congregational needs and help. Thank you for praying!

Good Friday Worship Service

At the heart of the Good Friday liturgy is the passion according to John, which proclaims Jesus as a triumphant king who reigns from the cross. The ancient title for this day – the triumph of the cross – reminds us that the church gathers not to mourn this day but to celebrate Christ’s life-giving passin and to find strength and hope in the tree of life. In the ancient bidding prayer we offer petitions for all the world for whom Christ died. Join us for this Tenebrae service honoring our Lord Jesus Christ!

Easter Sunday Worship Service

“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” God has indeed raised from the dead the one who was put to death “by hanging him on a tree.” Alleluia! God allows Jesus to appear “to us who were chosen by God as witnesses” in holy baptism and invites us to eat and drink at the table of the risen Christ. Alleluia!
